Create a blog within your Portfolio Series website
We’ve always provided matching blogs for our Portfolio Series websites, and have previously used WordPress to provide them. But in our constant drive for simplicity we decided we should build an entire blogging system within the Portfolio Series system.
This was no small task, but the system is now complete and available to all existing Portfolio sites that use the new mobile-friendly designs, and all future Portfolio sites of course.
If you have a Portfolio site but are not yet on one of the mobile-friendly designs, I urge you to upgrade. It’s free, and you are missing out on lots of functionality by remaining on the old system.
In keeping with the rest of the Portfolio system, the blog facility is powerful but simple. It contains all the main features one would expect and require of a blog:
- Formatted text
- Images
- Video
- Categories
- Social media integration
- Search
- Comments
- Archive
- Sidebar widgets for latest posts and latest comments
It also has a choice of layouts and automatically matches the style of your website. If you devide to change the design of your Portfolio site, the blog automatically changes too!
Listing Page Layouts
First of all, let’s look at the listing page layouts. This is the blog’s home page. You have a choice of three layouts:
2-column grid:
Standard List:
Full-width list:
You can see from the sidebar in these images that there’s a search facility, and widgets for Recent Posts, Categories and Archive. These are all optional.
Also available, but not visible in these images, is a sidebar widget for latest comments. Which leads me to…
Comments
The Portfolio blog system has a sophisticated comments feature. If you choose to allow it, visitors can leave comments on your posts. Their posts are not published until you approve them. You can allow comments on all, or just some, of your posts or you can switch them off altogether.
